New Guild War Players needs some Starter Help
I'm a new Guild Wars player and need some help. My guy is a level 6 Necro/Monk and I dont exactly know what to do! Someone gave me a good staff, but I want new armor, and I don't know how or where to get it. I also dont know a good way to make money! People talk about farming, but where? I've played runescape fo rlike 2 years and so far GW is confusing. At least on RS they gave you descriptions of items and where to get them at. Please help, I really just need to get started with my player.

Get yourself a good guild is probably the best advice. Many are pretty helpful and will give you plenty of advice and assistance. If your current Guild doesn't cut it, get another!

Guildwiki is the site that has pretty much everything. You should probably progess through the game by doing missions and quests before doing farming. Get used to the game. Good luck. |

Don't worry about farming. Just play the game normally, pick up every loot and gold you get, and sell them to merchant. That will easily let you afford your new armor and other stuff. When you get to the "real world" (you will know what I mean when you reach that) you can buy new armor and also new bags to carry more loot.

Which campaign do you have - Guild Wars, Guild Wars Factions, or Guild Wars Nightfall?
You say that you don't know if you are in a guild. Press G and it will bring up the Guild window.

As for guilds there is a section here where guilds recruit new members - look for one that says it's friendly and will help new players, and that will help you a lot. |

For some campaign storylines you need to do primary quests and missions. If you have no primary quests, look to see if there's a mission you need to do, and vice-versa.
For armor, check in towns/outposts for an NPC with [armor] after their name and look to see if the armor they have is better than what you currently wear. |

Ok, Im playing my guy in Factions. Now he is a level 7. Some guy asked me if I was a MM. Whats that? And my guild has 6 people, im leaving it soon. I honestly don't see the use of guilds. And thanks to everyone that has responded, im going along in the game doing primary quests, but hope to someday be able to do hardmode and no longer feel so noobish...LOL!

MM stands for Minion master ie you put all your points into death magic and soul reaping and just concentrate on raising a small army of zombie minions and keeping them alive as long as you can.
edit Guilds are essential for the pvp side of the game where team vs team play is common. When your in a good guild you always have friends who are willing to help you out in the tougher parts of the game. Many missions have bonus parts where if you do something within a time limit or perform extra tasks you get the bonus points. Guildies are great in those situations. The use of a guild depends very much on the guild and its members. It can be a social group for people to chat with and play with. If you find yourself in a good guild you can make some good friends. Also it's fun to play with others, and haviong a good active guild means you have a group of usually similar minded people who's playing style you can get to know, as opposed to PUGs (Pick up groups) which can be a bit more hit and miss
If you decide you want to get into the PVP side of the game then really getting into guild that's active in PVP is a must. Yes there are some PVP areas that you can just join on your own, but the majority is group orientated, which needs planning and organisation As for feeling noobish, we all had to start somewhere. There's a lot going on, and Factions throws it at you pretty thick and fast, so it's easy to find yourself lost at times As sk8510 said, there's http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page which has pretty much everything about the game There's also http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page which has almost as much, and which can also be accessed by pressing F10 in game and chosing a subject (minimises the game and opens a browser window) |

Even if you're a PVE player guilds can be useful. There are many guilds who will help you through difficult quests and missions. They will also answer your questions in game. As you've found out there are many parts of this game where a little help is really useful. There were so many things I didn't know when I started and my guild explained and showed me many things I would have missed. The game became more fun and addictive (watch out!) then ever. They are always guilds recruiting in the major outpost cities. I would suggest finding a large one the says they help new players, if you should decide to join one.
The problem with small guilds is that there aren't enough people online at the same time who can help you. |
